The Big Thong
The lost thong is an Aussie icon and this Big Thong sticking out of the ground pays tribute to it.
Australia is a big place and it is easy when traveling around to simply take the shortest route from A to B to get somewhere as quickly as possible. I started chasing ‘Big Things’ to give me a reason to take the roads less traveled and see some great little towns that I would otherwise have just passed by.
It is surprising just how many ‘Big Things’ there are around the place. Most were originally created as tourist attractions to draw in travelers to stop and explore the area. Over time, these unique structures have taken on a life of their own beyond their initial function and have a special place in Australian culture. This page looks at some of the Big Things I have found as I have traveled to different places in this great country.
