Farrell Flats Silo Art
Located around 20km from the town of Clare in the Clare Valley wine region, the Farrell Flats Silo Art was completed in 2020 by artists Jarrod Soden & Matthew Knights.
The artwork depicts RX55, the steam locomotive that hauled the last passenger train to travel to Farrell Flats before the closing of passenger services in December 1986. The freight services continued to run until January 1999.
The RX locomotives were built at the Railway Workshops in Adelaide between 1855 & 1916 and the RX55 began service on 13th November 1913 and operated until July 1964.
The railway provided a vital link to overseas markets for the pastoral leases in the area.
