Owen Silo Art

Owen Silo Art titled ‘Wheat bags to Sand bags’ was completed on ANZAC day 2021 by artists Robert Hannaford and Cam Scale.

The art work depicts a period of time in in rural Australia at the outbreak of World War I. The first artwork represents  harvest time at Owen in 1914 with young men loading bags of wheat into a horse drawn drey. When young Australian men and women were called into service in 1914 many came from country communities who swapped their wheatfields for the battlefields of Europe.

The second artwork shows the same person filling sandbags in the trenches of Gallipoli.
