2024 SA Trip Part 4 - Mildura to Halls Gap

Into week three of the trip now and it was an interesting section full of silo art and big things. The route was not direct but it did allow me to see a lot. The countryside was just long flat plains of wheat bisected by long straight roads until I hit Horsham and I am really looking forward to getting back to some hills and winding roads again. The silo art on the way to Horsham was interesting and all of them have a story behind them and are well worth the visits to the smaller towns to see.

Meeting Friends in Horsham

When setup at the caravan park in Horsham I got in touch with some friends living there who arranged a motorcycle ride the following day. One of the great things about motorcycling is it tends to create an instant bond with others who ride. I had only met Liz & Coop once before in Tasmania and they went out of their way to make me welcome.

The ride did a circuit through Halls Gap and certainly satisfied the lust for some greenery and curvy roads. It is a beautiful place to visit and I will be staying there for a few days.

They took me to a quirky stop on the side of the road complete with a bowl of fruit, wine glass, comfy chairs and a lamp. Crazy what you can find in the middle of nowhere.

At most of the stops Coop, who has lived here all his life managed to give me a lot of the history of the place which was interesting. Took me to a place called Zumsteins which had a great story of a man in the 1930s who hand dug a large swimming pool in the area. They were a tough breed way back then.

Extended Break at Halls Gap

Halls Gap has been on my list of places to go for as long as I can remember so I was happy to finally cross this of the bucket list. When I came to Halls Gap with Liz and Coop on the bikes on the weekend you could not move for people. By the time I got there this time the school holidays were over and everyone had gone which was perfect. The only real neighbours in the caravan park were kangaroos and emus. Just perfect.
