The Big Ant - Broken Hill - NSW
The Big Ant is mounted atop a wooden structure and can be found close to the Tourist Center in the mining town of Broken Hill.
Created in 1980 by an Australian artis Kevin Charles, it was designed to mimic a bull ant, a particularly large and nasty Australian native ant that has a massive set of jaws and a painful sting. Originally mounted at the Stephens Creek Hotel, it was relocated to its current position in 1990.
The structure is meant to symbolise the miners from Broken Hill who, like the ants, relied on teamwork to get the job done. A great little spot to visit if you are in the area.
