The Big Mallee Stump - Ouyen - Victoria

The Big Mallee Stump is actually a Mallee root and the holder of the Guiness Book of World Records ‘Biggest Root’ record. Measuring a massive 10.69m in circumference over 1,000 people turned out to see it named the world’s biggest root.

Dug up by 84 year old Albert Holland around 30 years ago while clearing land to make way for the towns railway line. Using a bulldozer he got the blade under one edge and managed to push it out and sat it against a fence. It remained there for 17 to 18 years.

A chance conversation with a Councillor years later led to it being chosen as a symbol to symbolise the area. The stump was then moved to town and the rest is history.
